I need to change the date of my course? What do I need to do?

You can re-book your course online via SRFWM_ENQUIRES@westmidlands.police.uk provided that your course is over 14 days away; also depending on your critical date and availability. If you are within the 14 days, you will need to contact the Customer Services team by phone. A re-booking fee may apply.

What does the course involve?

Courses are available both online via Zoom or in person across our communities. Each course lasts 3 hours excluding registration and includes a short comfort break.

The courses are designed to educate and to understand the effect of behaviour on other road users and those within the community.  There is no test however you must complete the whole course and engage with the trainer and others attending.

Attending an Online Course

What will I need for my course?

Our online courses are hosted on Zoom.

If using a tablet or smartphone, we recommend that you install the Zoom app for free before your course. You can also join a meeting via a web browser or desktop app.

You should test the system before the course.

You must interact with your trainer and others on the course to pass.

Your device must therefore have a web cam and microphone, and have a good internet connection.

We recommend that your device remains powered via the mains supply during of the course. You will fail the course if your battery runs out and you do not complete the course. A pen and paper will also be required during the course.

You must be in a private room when completing the course, away from any distractions.

When you join online, you will be asked to show official photographic identification to the camera. This can include:

  • photocard driving licence
  • passport
  • work ID badge
  • blue badge
  • firearms certificate/shotgun licence

If you are unsure if your identification is acceptable, please contact us before to your course.

A pen and paper will also be required during the course.

How do I access my course?

Joining instructions will be emailed to you approximately 4 days before your course. Please check your junk, spam or promotions folders if not received in your main inbox.

The joining instructions will include the link/URL for your course.

Once you have connected to the course, you will be automatically placed into a waiting room where you will see the name of the course and a message to confirm that the trainer will admit you in due course. 

I am not very technical and am worried about completing the course. What help is available?

Most importantly, please don’t worry. Attending an online course is quite straightforward and does not require a lot of technical expertise. Our experienced Customer Service team are available to help and are happy to complete a trial run with you on how to join the course however we ask that you contact us in plenty of time so that this can be arranged. You will be allowed to have a friend or family member to help you log onto your course however they will be required to vacate the room when your course starts.

You will receive an email 4 days before your course with the joining instructions which will contain further information and confirm what you need to do to prepare for your course.

If you do not have the equipment or help required to attend your course, we may be able to offer you a classroom course at a venue, depending on your critical date and availability.

What happens if I have technical issues while connecting or lose connection during the course?

Check you are as close as possible to your internet router. Turn off other devices that require the internet to help strengthen the signal.

If you experience issues with connecting, log out and back in as this may help. Ensure you are joining with video and audio on when the prompt appears.

If you lose connection during the course, click on the original link that you initially joined the course with, you will re-enter the waiting room and your trainer will be alerted that you have re-joined. If you are not successful in re-joining, you will need to contact the Customer Service team and you may have an opportunity to re-book the course, subject to availability.

I’m late for my course and the trainer has not granted me access. What should I do?

You must contact one of our Customer Service team as soon as possible to see if your course can be re-arranged. Terms and conditions apply.

Can I have an interpreter with me on the course?

Yes.

If English is not your first language, you can have a family member or friend to assist you during the course. Please inform us and provide their name when booking the course.

Please note that any person assisting you must be at least 17 years of age, preferably a car driver and fluent in speaking (and understanding) both English and the language for which they are interpreting. They will also need to provide photo ID when attending the course with you.

Please be advised that we’re restricted to having one course attendee with interpreting support in any one course. This minimises any delays and maximises learning for all.

I'm disabled. Is the course accessible?

When you book your course, you’ll be asked to identify any adjustments you need. You can discuss your specific personal needs with our Customer Service team. All reasonable adjustments will be made to ensure the best experience for all clients.

I have children but no one to look after them during the course. How do I attend the course?

It is a requirement to be able to complete the course in a private room away from distractions to allow you to concentrate and fully engage.  You will need to consider which option is best suited for your circumstances.

There are no courses available online. What do I do?

Client location

You are able to attend a course anywhere within the territory (i.e. UK and Northern Ireland) and virtually. If you have any questions about this, please get in touch using the Contact Us page.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Your privacy and confidentiality are important. Your data will be held on secure systems for a limited time. We follow all relevant laws when handling your data. You can read more about this in the NDORS Privacy Statement. People attending the course must not photograph, film or record in any way participants or content.
